Biography & Exhibits around the World

BIOGRAPHY

Sara Cafarelli (aka SACAF), was born in September 1975.

Sara was born and raised in Siena, a small town in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. She grew up in a family where the language of freedom was spoken through colours, pencils and paint brushes. An environment where the artistic expression of oneself was deeply encouraged in all of its forms by giving free rein to the imagination. A place where it was impossible not to develop an artistic personality.

Thanks to her upbringing, Sara and the visual arts have been friends since childhood, knowing this it’s no wonder that her high-school choice was the Liceo Artistico Duccio di Buoninsegna. After graduation she decided to pursue another great passion of hers, architecture, by attending the Facoltà di Architettura di Firenze.

Sara’s third great passion is, without a doubt, the city of Siena. The love she has for her city led her to become a licensed guide in 2012, for both city tours and museums.

All those various studies made it possibile for her to track her own unique path, not only in life,  but especially in her art. A path guided by her heart, her instinct and her never-ending curiosity to discover the makings of the world and her surroundings.

In 2006 with her first personal exhibition Sara starts a new and florid artistic period. During that first exhibition her paintings caught the eye of the renowned semiologist Omar Calabrese, whom instantly recognized her talent and firmly encouraged her to submit three of her paintings to the MoMA (NY) for selection.

Throughout the following years her artistic presence in the Tuscan area became more and more established, but the biggest launch of her career happens in 2013, when one of her paintings (belonging to the PS1 MoMA since 2007) is chosen to be exhibited for a week at the MoMA. This was an enormous achievement for her career, but even more so, it was the crowning of one of her biggest dreams.

To celebrate this accomplishment Sara decides to set up another personal exhibition, “SoulMESC”, in her hometown Siena. In only two weeks it registered more than 1800 visitors. The success of this second personal expo was unexpected but certainly well deserved.

As it usually happens with artists after a successful event in their career, what follows is the uncontrollable desire to travel, to experience new cultures, to expand their horizons not only in the geographical sense but also intellectually, emotionally and existentially. A desire called Wanderlust.

This is what happens for Sara during the summer of 2014, when she decides to  travel to the North of Spain to start the Santiago de Compostela’s pilgrimage (Camino de Santiago). A pilgrimage made of sea, wind and inspiration, that went on for more than a month, at the end of which the kilometers walked were more than 860.

The journey started at Irùn and ended at Finisterre and it marked a moment of great growth for Sara, both in her personal life and in her art.

Because of this experience soon after she came back to her hometown (Siena) Sara decides to inaugurate another individual exposition, “Ultreya y Suseya”. All the paintings here exposed were entirely dedicated to the Camino de Santiago.

The expo’s name “Ultreya y Suseya”, comes from the pilgrims expression “let’s go further and higher”.

In the following two years Sara’s artistic style continues to mutate and evolve, so much so that in 2016 she starts a new artistic period entitled “ReflectionTOUR”. During this new period, she is able to bring to life and into her paintings all that she felt when she was a kid, when she would lose herself while looking at the rain or at mirrors. All her paintings from this period are in fact full of energy as one can see from the impactful use of colours and mirror details.

The tour starts in Florence and ends in February 2020 in Amsterdam, touching many cities such as Siena, Torino, Milano, Bologna, Napoli, Roma, Aalst, Munich, Cracovia, Miami, Innsbruck, Marbella and Cannes.

Another significant milestone in Sara’s career happens in October 2019, when she’s invited to expose two of her paintings at the Salon International d’Art Contemporain, at the Museum du Louvre.

Sara’s currently working on her newest artistic period, entitled “PHI”, inspired by her studies of the Golden Ratio and the mathematical concept developed by Fibonacci.
